John B. Fairfax has been appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO), for his service to the print media industry, particularly the development of news services in rural and remote areas, and to the community through executive roles with agricultural and charitable organisations. Mr Fairfax, whose family has been involved in newspapers in Australia since 1841, was chairman of Rural Press Ltd for more than 15 years.

In light of recent vandalism attacks in many towns throughout the region, Temora’s new security camera network that covers four blocks in Hoskins Street, allowed local Police to quickly solve a case. Damage to two windows in adjoining businesses caused $5000 damage and the CCTV footage from the security cameras allowed Police to identify the two offenders.

An ambitious $180 million plan to pipe water from Burrendong and Wyangala Dam to Orange, Forbes, Parkes, Condobolin, Young and other towns has been proposed by CENTROC, the organisation representing local shires in central NSW. The plan has been passed on to the Federal Government as part of their Infrastructure Australia study with consultants assessing the plan as part of a $550,000 feasibility study.

Many Merino studs in the Boorowa, Harden and Yass district opened their doors to prospective buyers the day prior to the Show and Sale.
