 Call for fencing volunteers

Call for fencing volunteers

12 Feb, 2010 07:28 AM
The Walla Walla/Gerogery Bushfire fencing program, initiated by Greater Hume Shire Council after the recent devastating bushfire, is underway.

The project is expected to take several months to complete.

Program Fencing Co-ordinator, Bill McDonald said that a number of volunteer groups have commenced work on the bushfire re-fencing program in both Walla Walla and Gerogery districts.

Mr McDonald said that a group of Henty farmers and people from North Albury Rotary Club had started work on the re-fencing

program.

Whilst the Council is still collecting information on the scope of fencing required it is apparent that the project will span over several months and more volunteers will be needed to help complete the program in a practical timeframe.

Mr McDonald said that the Council could utilise volunteers with or without fencing experience and people wishing to register as a fencing volunteer should contact the Walla Walla Gerogery Bushfire Hotline on 0457 731 824.
