See what’s new at the 2012 Royal Canberra Show

03 Feb, 2012 06:31 AM
The ActewAGL Royal Canberra Show is set to be held on February 24 – 26, 2012 at Exhibition Park, Canberra.

Jump on the TransACT Express, which will transfer patrons around the showground for the first time, and enjoy highlights of this year’s Show, including great new firework displays, an appearance by Glenn McGrath, the new John Deere Gator Challenge, Fonzy – the Giant Friesian, the Canadian Lumberjacks Spectacular, Lawn Mower Racing and much more around the showground.

The FireworX team is bringing great new firework effects to the Show this year, including Swimming Star and Criss-Crossing with beautiful variations and mixtures of colours. Look up these stunning patterns of Palm Trees, Dahlias, Butterflies and Falling Leaves with Strobe, Willow, Crackle and Torbillion effect in the sky on Friday and Saturday night after the crowd pleasing Toyota V6 HiLux Heroes and Freestyle Motocross.

Glenn McGrath, former Australian cricketer, philanthropist, farmer and Australian Year of the Farmer ambassador is visiting the ActewAGL Royal Canberra Show on Friday morning. Come say hi and get his autograph at Australian Year of the Farmer stall right outside of Harvest Hall.

Another new comer to the Main Arena program on Saturday and Sunday is the John Deere Gator Challenge.

City girls and Farmer boys go head-to-head with some work and play in high performance John Deere Gator XUV’s. Pick your team!

Weighing 1,355 kilograms and over 1.8 metres tall, Fonzy – the Giant Friesian makes his first appearance at the Show this year.

Visit this friendly bullock in Canberra Milk Milking Barn.

The Cattle Section is running a Scottish feature breed show this year, showcasing Angus, Belted Galloway, Galloway, Highland, Miniature Galloway and Miniature Belted Galloway. And to make the Cattle Rings this year more ‘Scottish’, all Cattle Section Committee Members are wearing the kilts so expecting some fashion parades if you are visiting the Rabo Bank Cattle Precinct.

Ben James, who always signs off his emails with “Good as wood” is bringing a spectacular show direct from Canada to Canberra via Bega.

This has been a joint venture between Bega Show Society and the RNCAS. The centre piece is two poles soaring to 15 metres or 45 feet into the air. These lumberjacks will go up and down the poles at break neck speed.

There will be all sorts of acts involving

wood – outrageous chainsaws, log rolling and a

commentator.

It will be staged behind the administrative office where the sheep shearing demonstrations and whip cracking have been for the past three years.

This is a lively act that is sure to entertain our show crowns.

Ride-on Lawn Mower Racing will be making more noise in the Main Arena. This is a fun event for males who have forgotten how old they are.

Some do take it very seriously with three mowers in Australia having 250cc motorcycle engines.

And finally, find a seat in the Main Arena to watch the biggest Horse Show in Australia with 1,300 horses representing 17 breeds, competing in 400 classes held in eight rings. More than 2,000 ribbons will be awarded.

Pre-purchase discounted family entry passes and Sideshow Alley Bonus Dollar coupons for more saving at the Show.

They are on sale now until 23 February from ActewAGL stores.
