Gooloogong dairy farmer

honoured

Gooloogong dairy farmer Janet Moxey was one of three farmers to be awarded the Medal of Honour by the NSW Farmers’ Association for services to the agricultural industry.

Mrs Moxey has been part of the dairy industry for 30 years and runs ‘Moxey Farms’ in Gooloogong where 2,000 cows are milked.

Mrs Moxey made history in 2006 when she was elected as the first female vice-president of the NSW Farmers’ Association.

She has also, in the past, headed the Association’s Dairy Committee and been on the board of directors.

Broadband for Binalong

High speed broadband has made its way to the village of Binalong with Telstra now enabling ADSL2+ (all of the capabilities of ADSL with faster speeds).

While great for downloading movies etc, the faster broadband is expected to aid small businesses, giving them the technology necessary to remain competitive in the current climate.

Grenfell Cinema open

The town of Grenfell now has a cinema, officially opened last month by Weddin Shire Council deputy mayor Nevin Hughes.

The cinema reached its 60 person capacity on the opening night and the film to go down in history as the first screened at Grenfell Cinema was ‘Rachel Getting Married’.

Young Council supports

Men’s Shed

Young Shire Council has donated $1,000 to the Young Men’s Shed, with Shed president Trevor Green saying the money will go towards new electrical tools.

Young Council mayor Stuart Freudenstein said the Men’s Shed has the backing of the entire Council.

“This (making a donation) is a good opportunity to contribute to the concept of the Shed and all they give back to the community,” Cr Freudenstein said.

Beckom Community Hall

Beckom Community Hall will receive funds for hall equipment as part of the ABB Grain Community Fund.

Beckom is one of more than 35 rural communities to benefit from the funding allocation.

Gas pipeline on cards for Young

A $500 million interstate gas pipeline could be built from Young and Queensland.

ERM Power is proposing to build the 900 kilometre line from Young, through Wellington, Gunnedah and Narrabri in the north-west into Queensland.

The company says it is talking to landholders whose properties the pipeline would cross and if approved, the line will provide gas to the company’s gas-fired power station in Wellington and create more than 300 jobs.

Police boost for Southern NSW

The southern region benefited out of the recent attestation at the Goulburn Police Academy, with seven probationary constables stationed across the area.

Two officers have been stationed within the Albury Local Area Command, one at Cootamundra, one in the Goulburn Local Area Command, one in the Monaro Local Area Command, one in the Shoalhaven Local Area Command and the Wagga Wagga Local Area Command also received one new probationary constable.
