Young
The Young Shire Council’s proactive stance on promoting the town and district has gained momentum after the Shire joined the NSW Business Chamber. The chamber is a not-for-profit employer organization which provides support for members across a broad range of areas as well as lobbying at a regional and state level. Mayor Stuart Freudenstein is hoping by joining the NSW Business Chamber it can help with some of the major issues affecting the region.
Cowra
Community meetings on the proposed development of a gas pipeline from Young to Wellington are being held in many communities. The new pipeline proposal from ERM Power is being built to connect a power station at Wellington with the main Moomba- Sydney gas pipeline that passes through Young. The pipeline runs from Young to Bendick Murrell, Wattamondara, Billimari, Canowindra, Molong and on to Wellington. The final say on whether the project proceeds rests with the NSW Planning Minister, but site investigations have been already been carried out. If given the go ahead, the project would take six months with a workforce of 250 people involved.
Booligal
The Booligal community will meet soon to plan the distribution of proceeds to local charities after a successful Booligal Sheep Races, made over $13,000.
The Booligal Cup winner for 2009 was ‘Clarky’ entered by Wynton Brown, gold sponsor of the event, who generously donated the $500 winnings back to the Booligal Sheep Races committee. ‘Clarky’ was bred by the Turner Family, “Brassbutt” Hay and trained by Paul and Kerry James of “Woorandara”, Booligal. Best Decorated Sheep went to Kate Hicks and Laura, Will and Darcy Booth’s sheep ‘Little Bo Peep’. The Booligal Station Garden was also spectacular with an amazing display seen by 98 people.
Jugiong
The Jugiong Art Exhibition, a fundraiser for the St John the Evangelist Church is to be held at the Jugiong Memorial Hall commencing on Friday November 27 with the official opening and cocktail party before continuing over the weekend November 28-29 from 10am to 4pm. The feature artist is Willy Sheather from Wagga and with renowned landscape artist Ken Knight and many talented local artists, the exhibition will be worth viewing. Wyangala
NSW Water Minister Philip Costa advised residents of Wyangala that he would be using the recommendation from Ian Armstrong not to close the road atop the Wyangala Dam wall until a satisfactory north-south access route is available. What the final outcome of further investigations into access options is still unsure, the Minister’s commitment is a step in the right direction according to local residents and Cowra mayor Bill West. Residents are hoping a new bridge will be built across the Lachlan River in the vicinity of the Trout Farm.
