Condobolin
The Condobolin district will celebrate its 150th birthday from November 28 to December 2. Condobolin was officially proclaimed as a township on November 30, 1859 and a special ceremony will be held at Major Mitchell Park on November 30 at 11am to mark the occasion. According to Committee Chairman Graham Scott, Condobolin has been spelt a few different ways in its history. Aborigines pronounced the district Cundabullen, a word meaning ‘shallow crossing’. Early Government records show ‘Condoublin’ as the official spelling of the area up until 1899 where the Shire Council asked the Government to change the name to Condobolin. However it took till 1949 for the town’s name to be officially changed by Government gazette from Condoublin to Condobolin. For most people they refer to the town’s name as Condo.

Grenfell’s Open Weekend, which showcased the town and district to prospective new residents and new business owners was very well received, with a large number of people visiting Grenfell to see what the town had to offer. There was positive feedback from visitors about Grenfell’s strong friendly community spirit and the excellent facilities in the town. It is hoped that some people who made the trip to Grenfell on the weekend will decide to make a permanent move to the town in the near future. The Weddin Shire Council’s proactive stance in promoting the advantages of living and working in the Grenfell is paying dividends.
