Yass
Yass Valley Council has announced it will use a $10,000 state government grant, applied for by the Railway Heritage Centre, to investigate the feasibility of running trams from the Junction to the Museum; a route that will take passengers through patches of open land, stretches of the river, across the picturesque railway bridge and down Dutton Street to its destination.
A year-and-a-half ago, the future of the 4.6km extinct tramline, which runs between the Railway Museum and the active Yass Junction, was in jeopardy.
Had it not been for an 11th hour protest by local history buffs and train enthusiasts, a 500 metre Dutton Street segment of the line would have been removed, quashing any hopes of one day restoring the 140-year-old tramway.
Parkes
Parkes will again stage the National Aerobatic Championships after hosting a successful event during the Easter Long weekend.
The successful staging of the event will see the club return again next year for the 37th annual titles.
A letter from the Australian Aerobatic Club was tabled at a recent Parkes Shire Council meeting where they extended ‘heartfelt’ thanks to council for its support during this year’s championships.
The club has been coming to Parkes for several years now and again stated how the venue met all necessary requirements.
At one stage it was feared Parkes could lose the titles to another location. However, this has been put to rest with the National Committee recognising the capacity of Parkes Shire to host such events.
Holbrook
Two new NSW Rural Fire Service brigade stations at Holbrook and Albury have been officially opened.
The new stations, costing more than $120,000, will significantly improve the existing capabilities of
volunteer brigades.
Temora
Temora Shire Council has approved a development application, which will see multi national restaurant McDonalds be built in the town.
The development application for the multi national restaurant was passed with only minimal fuss and next to no debate at last month’s Temora Shire Council
meeting.
