Hay had visitors galore over the long weekend.
Leading up to the long weekend Hay hosted TV presenters Tim Charody and Tim Doyle from the show Travel Oz. They were filming their experiences in Hay and have had a great week which included picking lettuce, water skiing, fishing, shearing sheep, droving on the long paddock and playing footy with the kids. The segment on Hay will be shown later in the year.
Hay Bowling and Golf club hosted the Hay Plains Bowls Carnival with over 400 bowlers attending the event. This was the 39th year of the annual carnival and once again was a very well supported event.
The Mini Nationals were another great success with Hay having now played host to the event for 41 years.
Event organizer Declan Dwyer said approximately 300 people attended the event with 89 entries. A highlight of the weekend was what started out as a “pass the hat around” fundraiser developed into the Mini Clubs raising $5000 for drought relief for Hay and the Hay Scouts.
“We wanted to give something back to the Hay community which has been supporting us for so long,” said Mr Dwyer
The Standard Triumph and Vanguard car groups also enjoyed coming to Hay to give their vintage machines a run on the wide open roads. The enthusiasts were thrilled with their visit to the recently restored One Tree Hotel.
Visitors travelled from Victoria and South Australia & throughout NSW to attend these events in Hay over the long weekend.
